On November 11, 1918, an armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany, putting an end to World War I, which was then considered the worst war the world had ever seen. In 1954, November 11 was declared “Veterans Day.”
According to one source, when the people of Ballston Spa learned of the WWI armistice, they formed an impromptu parade, which has become known as the Ballston Spa Peace Celebration. This image, found on a postcard, documents the parade and peace celebration on November 11, 1918.
The parade is on Front Street (notice the Medbery in the background) heading towards Milton Avenue.
