Saratoga County Historical Society at Brookside Museum - The Art of Basket Making

The Art of Basket Making

Tuesday, May 1
1 – 3:30 PM or 6:30 – 9 PM
$32 per person includes  kit for 4”x12”x 6.5” Herb Window Basket
Join us as we make this lovely basket that would be good for holding pots of herbs, storing kitchen items or filling with items to give as a gift. This would be a perfect basket to make for a heart-felt Mother’s Day gift. This is an excellent opportunity to create a hand-crafted item, much the way local basket makers have for centuries.

Basket makers of all levels are welcome. New students will learn the basics of traditional basket weaving, while experienced weavers can improve their skills. Instructor Mary Ann Filkins Halsted has been weaving baskets for over 30 years. Please bring the following items to class: hand towel, pencil, utility knife, awl or ice pick, kitchen scissors or pruning shears and a dozen heavy-duty spring clothes pins. Please note that herb plants are not included in this project but we can recommend local garden shops who could help you fill your basket.

Pre-registration is required by April 29. Please e-mail education@brooksidemuseum.org (preferred) or call (518) 885-4000 and list your name, e-mail address, phone number, and mailing address.
