History Center Launches DEI Initiative
Ballston Spa, NY – With an eye toward long-term growth and relevancy, the Saratoga County History Center has launched a diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative. An ad-hoc committee consisting of area professionals and community organizers will meet through 2021 and 2022 to assess SCHC programming, identify under-represented demographics, and conceive of a plan to reach and serve those communities.
The committee includes Dr. Michael Landis (chair), trustee, Saratoga County History Center; Dr. Jordana Dym, Professor of History, Skidmore College; Ron Agostinoni, Principal, Shenendahowa High School; Dora Lee Stanley, Glen Falls Branch NAACP and MLK Saratoga; Jeremy Baird, Saratoga Pride; James Bruchac, Ndakinna Education Center; TJ Sangaré, BLM Saratoga; Krystle Nowhitney Hernandez, LifeWorks Community Action; Dr. Joanne Zangrando, trustee, Saratoga County History Center; and Donna Dardaris, trustee, Saratoga County History Center. In addition, Florencia Feleder, Capital Region Director, Office of U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, will serve as a guest participant.
The Trustees and staff of the History Center strive to fulfill their mission statement and serve all of Saratoga County’s diverse communities. Since transitioning from local historical society to regional history center in the spring of 2020, the Board of Trustees has worked diligently to expand and innovate. This new DEI initiative will serve as a blueprint for future programming, exhibits, and educational endeavors.
The Saratoga County History Center is dedicated to preserving and sharing the diverse histories of Saratoga County. In addition to the venerable Brookside Museum, the History Center offers a variety of innovative, exciting, and educational programming online.
