Saratoga County Historical Society at Brookside Museum - Chris Carola to Speak on WWII Veterans of Saratoga County

Chris Carola to Speak on WWII Veterans of Saratoga County

The Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum is pleased to announce, “A Call to Duty: Saratoga County Veterans in WWII”, a free talk presented by Chris Carola on Wednesday, May 24 at 7 pm.

As a history buff and former AP reporter, Chris has had the opportunity to interview several WWII veterans over the years.  He was inspired to research and document the experiences of Saratoga County veterans after coming across a scrapbook in the Saratoga Room of the Saratoga Springs Public Library that underscored how many local men were stationed all over the world during the war.

During the hour-long talk, Chris will share many stories of local veterans, including the Gaynor family from Greenfield Center, who had six sons in uniform during the war.  Chris has described their story as being like the movie “Saving Private Ryan”.  The talk will be followed by a question and answer period.

Chris has previously given a Brown Bag lunch series talk on this topic and has known many former veterans.  He feels that not everything on the war is online and is dedicated to researching and documenting the stories of local veterans so that their sacrifices and experiences are not forgotten.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask Chris questions about his research and the experiences of Saratoga County veterans during and after the war.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chris Carola to the Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum to share his research and insights on Saratoga County veterans in WW2,” said Field Horne, Executive Director of the Saratoga County History Center. “This talk will provide a unique perspective on the war and its impact on our local community, and we encourage everyone to register for this free event.”

Registration for the talk is now open at www.brooksidemuseum.org.  For more information, please contact the Saratoga County History Center at (518) 885-4000 or info@brooksidemuseum.org
