Dear Members and Friends,
As we approach the end of another year, we are grateful for the support that has allowed us to strengthen Saratoga County History Center. At last, we have a new professional Executive Director, Anne Hollmuller. Our Education Director, Charlene DuBuque, carries on and expands the school services developed over many years by her predecessors. We are operating in the black. Our public programs regularly draw full houses. Only the building itself remains unfinished.
As you know, this beautiful building, that now houses Brookside Museum, was the first hotel building in either Ballston or Saratoga Springs and so has great importance as a landmark. We have worked non-stop over the past five years to stabilize and improve this large and needy structure. Just a few months ago a fine parking lot replaced a very beat-up one. Most interior spaces have been renovated. And of course the iconic porch, that had shown many signs of deterioration, was fully restored three years ago, all thanks to the help of supporters like you.
As you consider your year-end giving, we hope you will help us fund the last large project — painting the exterior and repairs to a small area of the roof. This work is vital, in order to care for our wonderful historic building in the best possible way, so that it can continue to welcome future generations of visitors.
Most of the money for restoration has come from the Annual Appeal, and has not drawn from our carefully-managed operating budget. The cost for a full, professional paint job and the roof repairs will be about $40,000. Once accomplished, we will be able to focus on our core mission. Would you please help us reach this milestone?
As ever, thank you for your support and generosity.
