Expert Next Door Series Episode 10: Curing in the Mountains – Saranac Lake: Research and Treatment of Tuberculosis in the Adirondacks

Amy Catania, Executive Director Historic Saranac Lake

This program will be held on Thursday, April 22nd, at 7pm

Join the Saratoga County History Center  and  Amy Catina, for the tenth event in our virtual Expert Next Door Series. In the 1870s, Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau came to the Adirondacks in search of a cure for his own case of tuberculosis. He settled in Saranac Lake and established the first successful sanatorium in the U.S. for the treatment of the disease, as well as the first research laboratory. For 70 years, the small community in the Adirondacks thrived as a center for patient care and science. Amy Catania, will discuss Saranac Lake’s history, and the people involved, in light of today’s pandemic, highlighting issues of continuity and change in public health. This virtual event will take place on Thursday, April 22nd, at 7pm.
