Stillwater Walking Tour

August 22 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

The History Center has added a 2024 walking tour of Stillwater led by Sara Kipp, director of the Stillwater Public Library. The tour will begin at the Library parking lot adjacent to Blockhouse Park on Rt 4 Hudson Avenue, the former location of many mills and factories in the late 1800s. Other stops along the way will include the 150 year old St. John’s Episcopal Church which will soon serve as the Stillwater Village Hall; the site of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp  which housed workers from 1939–1942 developing the Saratoga Battlefield as an historic site; the Newland-Wood firehouse which was re-built in 1897, plus many more. After a one mile walk, the tour will end in the new library with many historical images and maps of the Champlain Canal which is celebrating its 200th anniversary.
A $10 donation per person is suggested.
