SUMMARY:Leaves and Trees: A Children's Story Time & Craft
DESCRIPTION:Join the Saratoga County History Center for a children’s program celebrating leaves and trees! On October 18\, 2026 at 2:00 PM stop by Brookside Museum for a read aloud and leaf themed craft activities. Our new Education Manager\, Meaghan\, will be reading “Fletcher and the Falling Leaves” by Julia Rawlinson and “A Tree for All Seasons” by Robin Bernard. Afterwards we invite families to try leaf painting or enjoy fall coloring pages. This program is aimed at children ages 3-8\, and children are encouraged to wear clothes that can handle a little paint mess. We hope to see you there! \nThis program is brought to you through the generosity of the J.M. McDonald Foundation\, and is inspired by our current temporary exhibition\, Luther Forest: A Family\, A Woodland\, A Legacy. \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Sounds in Autumn: The Epilogue Trio
DESCRIPTION:Now in its third year\, the “Sounds in Winter” Concert Series will continue with a performance by The Epilogue Trio. The chamber trio features Capital Region flutist Melanie Chirignan\, Karlinda Kaldicott on harp\, and Heather Chan on viola.  \nThese concerts are the fruit of a unique partnership between the Village of Ballston Spa\, the Ballston Spa Committee on the Arts\, The Saratoga County History Center at the Brookside Museum\, with funding from a generous grant from Saratoga Arts and matching funds from the Music Performance Trust Fund of the American Federation of Musicians\, Local 506. The concert will begin at 3:00pm in the Long Room of the Brookside Museum\, 21 Fairground Avenue\, Ballston Spa. DESCRIPTION:Learn about the life and times of Andy Rooney\, and his connections to Ballston Spa!\n\nAndy Rooney carries readers through the arc of a true American original and one of the country’s most popular television and newspaper commentators. Award-winning journalist and biographer Paul Grondahl’s comprehensive biography traces Rooney’s early transformation from smart-aleck prankster to World War II correspondent for Stars and Stripes\, whose first-person wartime dispatches rivaled the reportage of Ernie Pyle\, Edward R. Murrow\, and Walter Cronkite. After narrowly avoiding death in the war\, Rooney’s early success as author and Hollywood screenwriter turned to years of rejection as a freelancer\, with unfulfilled literary aspirations and financial struggles.
