Campaign for Brookside Museum Launched

The Saratoga County History Center, at Ballston Spa’s Brookside Museum, has launched its 2023 Annual Appeal, with the goal of raising funds for an executive director along with final stabilization of the historic building, a three-year project now nearing completion. The goal for the current phase, $45,000, will go towards the director’s salary along with energy efficiency projects and care of its important collections.

Last year’s campaign, “Finish the Job,” exceeded its goal by more than $16,000. The building’s porch of six square columns in the Greek Revival style is believed to have been built in the late 1820s or early 1830s, replacing the 1792 original. Top-quality restoration work of the porch was finished last winter. “Finish the Job” also made possible the most economical
operation of the museum. Its storm windows were 70 years old and did little to keep out the weather. Replacement with modern, efficient storms is well underway and the remaining windows will be completed before winter.

In late spring 2023 a permanent exhibition about the county’s economic and social development since First Nations times was installed, thanks to funding from the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors. “Finish the Job” created a welcoming setting for the new exhibit.

All gifts will be acknowledged with gratitude and donors will be counted as 2023–24 members. Contributions may be sent via the form below, or by mail to SCHC, 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa, N.Y. 12020.
