The Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum invites you to join us for a presentation on the Language of Victorian Flowers. The event will be held on July 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Brookside Museum. Dr. Catherine J. Golden will lead the presentation and discuss the intricate and fascinating custom of communicating through flowers that flourished in the Victorian era. Dr. Golden will use a wide variety of primary and secondary sources to bring this lost art to life. Her presentation will conclude with a floral arranging activity to create what was known as a tussie-mussie, a small bouquet, which held a coded message of love, joy, friendship, disdain, condolence, or caution. The blooms for this activity have been generously donated by Suzanne Balet of Balet Flowers & Design. To finish the events of the day we will hold a dedication ceremony for our own Victorian Shade Garden on the grounds of Brookside Museum led by historian Field Horne.
