The Saratoga County History Center will host celebrated biologist Angela E. Douglas for a talk about her recent book, Near the Forest, By the Lake on Thursday April 2 at 6 pm at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa.
Near the Forest, By the Lake (Cornell University Press, May 2025) celebrates the natural world close to home, recognizing that local nature is worldwide: your familiar world may be an unknown faraway place for me, and vice versa. Everyone’s local environment, be it city sidewalk or country meadow, can offer a glimpse of nature’s splendor. Douglas and her collection of essays will help us reflect on and appreciate the natural world around us. Angela E. Douglas is an entomologist and professor emerita at Cornell University and is also the author of Nature on the Doorstep: A Year of Letters.
