It’s that time of year- planning for school programs!

It’s getting to be that time of year!  Teachers are planning lessons, classroom visitors and field trips.  If you are a teacher or administrator, consider exploring our assorted educational programs.  We love to welcome students to programs here at the museum and we are also happy to travel to your classroom.

Native New York   (Best suited for 4th and 7th grade students)

Discover the world of the Mohawk People through storytelling, games, handkids grinding corns-on activities and artifacts.  Tour a Three Sisters garden, play lacrosse, and learn how Chiefs and Clan Mothers were selected in Mohawk communities long ago.  We’ve designed our Investigation Station to support student-led learning and exploration.

Preschool Harvest (Best suited for children age 3-6)

Time to roll up your sleeves and help the farmer shell, grind and sift the corn!  Later, listen to an autumn story and make a corn craft to take home.  After your hard work, enjoy a snack of cornbread and apple juice.

Civil War Letters (Best suited for middle school and high school students)

Explore the world of Alonzo Bump, a Saratoga County soldier who served with the Union Army in the Civil War.  Using primary source documents, original artifacts and quality replica items, students research Alonzo’s family, wartime experiences and the local home front.  After preparing a short presentation, the students share their findings with the class.

Plan ahead for spring with Sheep to Shawl!  (Best suited for preschool and elementary students)

This popular program brings local agricultural traditions to the museum for a truly memorable experience for your students.  Try cleaning wool, spinning, weaving and watch a shearer artfully remove a sheep’s fleece.  On some days, you may even get to meet a tiny lamb!  sts13

We are also able to bring in-classroom versions of our museum based programs to your school.  We can also customize programming to meet the needs of your students.

Please contact Anne at aclothier@brooksidemuseum.org to discuss program options and register.
