While online today, you may have noticed that today’s “Google Doodle” honors Frederick Douglass. Born on an unknown date around 1818, he later chose to celebrate his birthday on February 14. The famed abolitionist orator visited Saratoga County on a few occasions through the nineteenth century. In 1849, he included Schuylerville, Quaker Springs, and Dean’s Corners on his speaking itinerary. We have included an article from the June 22, 1849 North Star newspaper (an abolitionist publication established by Douglass) which details his experiences in the area.
