The Saratoga County History Center has announced an additional walking tour to conclude their 2025 season. On Wednesday, October 1 Gloria Marceau will lead a fall tour of the Greenridge Cemetery on Lincoln Avenue in Saratoga Springs. This tour is focused on Civil War veterans and their stories and will include one ghostly tale appropriate for the season.
When Gloria retired from her career as a Human Resources Director, she started researching her genealogy and discovered that she was related to Gideon Putnam, the founder of Saratoga Springs, as well as Ann Putnam who accused 60 people of being witches during the Salem witch trials.
This piqued her interest in local history, and she has been leading tours for Joe Haedrich of walkingsaratoga.com. “Gloria has been giving history tours with me for many years–always to rave reviews” said Haedrich. There are times I think she actually seems to be resurrecting people directly from their graves!”
“When I led these cemetery tours, I included some Civil War veterans along with prominent Saratogians” said Marceau. “I realized that I needed to know more about the battles that these young men fought in.” Gloria joined the Grant Cottage book club, facilitated by Ben Kemp to learn more about that history to enhance her tours.
The tour will begin at the entrance to Greenridge Cemetery on Lincoln Avenue at 1 pm on October 1. Registration is required at https://brooksidemuseum.org/event/greenridge-cemetery-tour/
